Rands Update!

This was a nice little entry this week from the google brains. They love a bit of good honest SEO work

So the main idea of this is about building a monthly action plan!
This is a great overview of how we should be approaching our clients activities month on month to keep the account alive and kicking.
What is my monthly to do list as an seo?
Other than the expanding project plan –
We need to do more!!

1. Look at diagnostics –
Every month look at error checking , looking for problems – e.g. 404 pages , blocked pages on robots.txt. -> keep you eye on these so that we can identify problems before they occur
2. Collect key metrics once a week.
Visits from search engine, no. Of pages receiving traffic, keywords that are sending traffic. Watch the rankings, also watch rankings of competitors – are they accelerating their link growth? where are they building this from? Keep an eye on them!
3. Recognise keyword and content opportunities. Go through keyword lists, find emerging keywords, check out what’s happening, what new features are your clients adding, check out keywords about this , do we need to create content for that?
4. Social outreach.
Focus on branding and awareness in general. Look internally and externally, who do i need to engage, where should i engage.

I thought this was a great video, especially the first part of it, because its easy to get carried away with link building and on page optimisation , and lose sight of the bigger picture.
